🌩 Training, Thunderstorms & Questionable Decisions

There was a time—not so long ago—when I’d take one look at a forecast saying “rain and thunder” and say, “Absolutely not, I’ll be inside with snacks.” But now?
Now I’m lacing up for a 16 km hike in the Peak District… on purpose.
Why? Because this Welsh 15 challenge I signed up for—the one happening on the 5th of July—is slowly reprogramming my brain. I'm now the kind of person who chooses to hike through storms because missing a weekend of training feels illegal.
Tomorrow’s route is a loop around Derwent Edge—complete with trig points, moody skies, and enough elevation to count. The sort of hike I’d normally save for a clear day, but here I am, eyeing the clouds and hoping the thunder waits until I’m at least halfway done. Because priorities.
It’s my first time ever actively planning a hike knowing the forecast looks dramatic. No “maybe the weather will change.” Just vibes and waterproofs.
Peak District forecast: ☔ 90% chance of rain
Me: 🧠 100% chance of stubborn
If you see a very damp hiker tomorrow, smiling through sideways rain and trying to look like this was all intentional—that’s probably me. Feel free to wave. Or join. Misery loves muddy company.
